About

Chris Hale

Not a therapist. Not a guru. Someone who lost himself in a long, hard season, and had to find the way back without a map.

The short version

For fifteen years I lived inside a relationship that slowly took me apart. From the outside it looked perfect. From the inside, I was disappearing a little more every year.

Leaving was the hardest thing I've ever done. But the part nobody warned me about came after: standing in a quiet life, not recognising the person in it, and having to rebuild him from scratch.

I started writing for people in exactly the situation I'd been in. The people who wrote back were men and women, coming out of every kind of hard season. Breakups. Loss. Burnout. Years spent being someone else's version of themselves. Different stories, the same question underneath: how do I get myself back?

That question is what this site is for.

A few honest things

Chris Hale is a pseudonym. Not to hide, but to protect my children and the privacy of the people involved.

I'm not a therapist. Everything here is personal experience and my own interpretation of it. If you're in danger or in crisis, please reach out to a professional or a local helpline first.

I write for the people the world forgot to listen to.

You Are Not Alone

I built this because I needed it myself, and it didn't exist.

I was looking for one thing: someone who had lived through it. Not a therapist reading from a textbook, not a friend trying their best to understand something they'd never felt. Someone I could ask direct questions and get a direct answer from. Someone who wouldn't look at me sideways when I said I needed to leave the person everyone else thought was perfect.

Only two or three people in my life ever heard the real story. And even they could only listen. None of them had been inside it, so none of them could actually help.

I wasn't looking for someone to tell me I was right. I was looking for someone to tell me I wasn't losing my mind.

This is the site I wish I'd found back then. If you're reading this at 2am, searching for words for something you can't quite explain yet: I built this for you.
